2. Adam Sandler - $55m
Adam Sandler takes second place having raked in a huge amount from hit comedies You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008) and Bedtime Stories (2008).
3. Will Smith - $45m
Will Smith topped the list in 2008 and this year slips down two places to scoop the third position.
4. Eddie Murphy - $40m and Nicolas Cage - $40m
Meet Dave (2008) made a disappointing $50 million at the worldwide box office last year but Eddie Murphy is still raking in the cash for his roles in family comedies.
Cage's earnings in the last year totalled $40 million but the returns from his next films will likely be used to pay off his outstanding debts to the IRS.
5. Tom Hanks - $35m
Just below Murphy and Cage is Tom Hanks with an estimated salary of $35 million in 2008.
6. Tom Cruise - $30m
Valkyrie (2008) brought in $200 million at the worldwide box office securing Tom Cruise's place in the top ten.
7. Jim Carrey - $28m
As an investor in one third of the film Yes Man (2008), Jim Carrey was paid $20m upfront. His earnings are set to total around $35m when the film is complete.
8. Brad Pitt - $28m
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) was a huge success and pulled it an incredible $333m at the worldwide box office.
9. Johnny Depp - $27m
Last year Forbes listed Depp's earnings as $72m but since the success of Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp's wealth has decreased considerably.
10. George Clooney - $25m
George Clooney hasn't appeared in a blockbuster hit since the Oceans series in the 2000s. Instead, he has played roles in smaller films such as Burn After Reading (2008).
