A-Z of hot summer loving

    A is for adventure
Falling in love causes the body to release a flood of the feel-good chemicals dopamine and adrenaline that trigger flushed cheeks, sweaty palms and a racing heart. Rekindle the highs you once felt by doing something risky together – whether that's parachuting, walking a high rope or driving at the race track.

    B is for bedtime
Go to bed early at least once a week – even it's still light outside. This is the best time to enjoy intimacy and closeness, whether or not you have sex. Set the scene with candles, lock the door, and make some 'two of us' time.

    C is for compliment him
Just before your partner is completely awake, roll over and whisper something complimentary or adoring in his ear. It's a great way to start the day and it puts your relationship instantly on the right track. Researchers studying happy couples found they tended to give each other five times more positive attention than criticism.

    D is for dirty dancing
Dancing is a great way to bring you closer together as a couple, whether you're a great mover, or you laugh out loud as you step on each other's toes. Look for ball room dancing lessons in your area, or turn up the heat and try sizzling salsa.

    E is for eat together
Make sure you and your partner eat together – and preferably at the table without the TV to distract you. Sometimes we need to make space to talk in order to re-connect. Why not dine alfresco in summer – after you've eaten, lie back in each other's arms and see who can spot the most amazing cloud formations.

    G is for go camping
Dirty weekends aren't just for new lovers. Time away from everyday stress can remind you how much you enjoy each other's company – and it needn't cost much if you go camping. Visit a specialised camp site or put a tent up in the back garden and admire the stars together – with a little privacy from the neighbours.

    H is for hold hands
Getting out for a walk together is a great way to chat, exercise and indulge in some hand-holding. It's a much underrated mini-date. Simple things like strolling hand in hand can help bond you as a couple.

    F is for flirt
With each other, that is. Give your partner a cheeky glance, or squeeze their bum, or say something that makes them want to get you alone. Not only does touch help the release of oxytocin, the bonding hormone, but it can also help heal any past hurts.

I is for 'I love you'
Couples who've been together for many years can presume that their partner knows they are loved, without them having to express it. If you genuinely feel it, then why not say it? An unexpected 'I love you' can be one of the best things in the world.

    J is for joke
When's the last time you had a good laugh together? The seriousness of life can easily take over, yet those who are able to laugh at life's misfortunes recover so much faster. See a stand-up comedy act together or have a water fight in the garden, anything that's silly and just for fun.
