Former EastEnders actress Wendy Richard has died from cancer at the age of 65. She will be remembered as one of the nation's favourite screen actresses.
She first came to public prominence in Are You Being Served in 1972, the same year this photo was taken.
And she became one of the longest-serving soap characters in British TV history when she joined the cast of EastEnders when the show was first screened in 1985.
A firm public favourite, she was awarded the MBE in 2000.
And there was more royal business in 2001 when she took the Queen and Prince Philip on a tour of Albert Square.
She was given the lifetime achievement award at the British Soap Awards in 2007.
Wendy was married four times, lastly to her long-term partner John Burns.
News of her breast cancer diagnosis was made public in October 2008, and it was revealed that the cancer had returned in January this year.
