For some celebrities, cosmetic surgery is a way of life. Jodie Marsh had a nose job aged 15 in order to reverse damage sustained during a hockey game, and she's now a regular user of botox. And though she used to boast about her real bust, her current 32GG fake boobs look like the Mitchell brothers having a ding-dong. But which other celebs have taken surgery too far?
"Isn't it a pity that I'm not the prettiest girl in the world?", Pete Burns once sang. Cue some cheek implants, several nose jobs and a series of polyacrylamide injections into his lips. He later announced that he was planning to sue his surgeon to the tune of £1million, who had cruelly left him looking like the front end of Penelope Pitstop's car. Nightmare.
Cher has had so many bits of her body nipped, tucked and surgically removed that she could probably make a Mini-Me with the leftovers. The singer, aged 63, has tried to turn back time with a selection of procedures, which are said to include a boob job, nose job, cheek implants, tummy tuck, face-lift, lipo and a bum-lift too. She now looks 52 and 11 years.
He had his first nose job in the 1960s, and since then Tom Jones has had a scalp reduction procedure (?!), chin lipo, a facelift and an eye-lift. But he was left with scars on his chin that he covers with a goatee, and was told by doctors to quit the cosmetic surgery in 2006. One wonders if he leapt into the operating theatre singing, "Just help yourself to my lips..."
Another celeb who regrets his plastic surgery is David Gest. "No one has a lower opinion of my looks than myself", he's sighed, speaking of the nose job and facelift given to him by Michael Jackson's surgeon. He then went on to have cheek implants and a cleft chin installed, as well as a hair transplant in 1990.
"Better a new face coming out of an old car than an old face coming out of a new car", says knife-loving comedian Joan Rivers. She's had treatments ranging from jaw implants to a brow lift, as well as multiple facelifts, and that's why this 74 year old has the face of, well, a 74 year old with a damned good surgeon.
"I want to be the best-looking corpse there is", says self-confessed surgery addict Janice Dickinson. That's all very well, Janice, but shouldn't you only want to look like a cadaver when you're dead? The '80s supermodel, now a cackling reality TV rent-a-crow, has had a tummy tuck, breast implants, a neck lift, a face lift, eyelid work and several rounds of Botox in her time.
Gossip column regular Alicia Douvall has admitted that she's addicted to plastic surgery, claiming that she's undergone more than 100 procedures. She now complains that she can no longer feel her stomach, left breast or anything underneath her right arm, and that British doctors now refuse to treat her. "I keep hoping one day I'll wake up feeling happy with myself", she sighs. Tragic.
Kerry Katona endured liposuction and a breast reduction in order to drop a couple of dress sizes. The operations were captured for the family album by MTV for a cunningly-titled show named Whole Again. "I'm addicted now! I feel sexier than ever", Katona said, before adding: "I've had two bacon baguettes this morning, but I've not had my favourite beef curry since surgery."
Donatella Versace is head of the classy fashion house that bears her family name. However, it would appear that her face wasn't as well-designed as her garments. Rumour has it that she underwent a botched facelift, and that her trout pout is the result of a series of collagen injections.
