Celeb splits, Spring 09

Rihanna had the right idea when she chucked Chris Brown following his arrest on domestic violence charges. The Umbrella-twirler reportedly celebrated her new-found freedom by hosting a lavish party at an LA restaurant. But they're not the only couple who have split so far this year...

"Hope my boyfriend doesn't mind it", cooed Katy Perry in her debut hit. But there must have been something that her partner, Gym Class Heroes singer Travis McCoy, didn't like as the pair of them broke up in January. Sounds like she's going to have to start looking for someone new to kiss.

Geri Halliwell announced her break-up with Fabrizio Politi in March - just three months after accepting his proposal. "Many people have since told me we looked like brother and sister", Politi later said, shedding new light on the 'Nat and Georgia' nature of their mercifully brief relationship.

Hollywood's unluckiest romancer, Jennifer Aniston, was dumped yet again in March – this time by musician John Mayer. "I don't have [the perfect relationship] and I don't think it exists", she told a magazine just a matter of weeks beforehand. Here's hoping that the next guy proves her wrong.

"Four months into the relationship I knew I loved him," says Chantelle Houghton of her former fella, footballer Jermaine Defoe. "I wrote it in his Valentine's card, but he never said it back. We split up two weeks later." Lucky escape for Mr Defoe, then...

Do you still dream of being a princess? Well, you're now in with a chance as Prince Harry was reported to have been dumped by long-term lover Chelsy Davy at the end of January. "Suffice to say they felt that the relationship had run its course," the Queen didn't tell AOL.

She's been dogged by rumours that her relationship with her One Show colleague Adrian Chiles is more than just a business one, and more fuel was added to the fire when Christine Bleakley broke up with her boyfriend, Mark Beirne, in January. They'd been together for three years.

America mourned the loss of a funny couple when comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman broke up, supposedly for good, in March. However, the twosome had previously split in 2008, so we wouldn't be at all surprised if they're back together by the time you read this.

Lily Allen's latest love story came to an end in January when she ditched the 100-year-old art dealer Jay Jopling. They blamed the age difference for their split, and, OK, Jopling is really only 45 – but he's a mate of Lily's dad Keith. Bet that made for some uncomfortable teatimes. Or maybe not...

An age gap was apparently to blame for yet another celebrity break-up the following month, when Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia decided to ditch his 12-years-younger co-star Hayden Panettiere. So much for saving the cheerleader – looks like Hayden's going to have to find a brand new hero.
